Fall 2023 Fashion Guide

Can you believe it's a new season?

Hello September! Pumpkin spice is on the menu, and you’re busy getting into the groove of a new school year, new sports schedules, and a new list of fall activities.

While you're busy getting your fall calendar together, I’m here to help get your closet up to speed to ensure your everyday looks are on point.

I’ve curated this fall 2023 fashion guide just for you! 🍂👢🍁

I don’t know about you, but my summer wardrobe has started to feel stale, and I’m excited to mix some fall pieces into my rotation to help refresh my look.

Below is a list of my top fashion picks for fall 2023. Use it as a guide for what to wear when the temperatures drop.

After all, fall is the perfect time to sort through items you own and re-evaluate what pieces your wardrobe is missing.

So without further ado, here is my fall 2023 fashion guide.

1. Textured Layers:

Fall is the perfect season to experiment with layering different textures.

Mix and match textures such as shearling, velvet, suede, corduroy, faux fur, or denim to create a multi-dimensional look that's as interesting to touch as it is to look at.

STYLE TIP: Try accessories made of luxe textures, such as an oversized shearling clutch, or velvet over-the-knee boots

2. Cozy Knitwear:

As the temperatures drop, it's all about staying warm and stylish.

Knit sweaters are making a major comeback this fall (especially oversized).

Whether you're rocking a classic cable knit or a trendy chunky cardigan, you'll be the epitome of comfy chic.

STYLE TIP: Layer your cozy knitwear under your leather blazer for a fall look that is on point!

3. Edgy Leather:

Leather, isn't just for biker jackets anymore.

From shirts and skirts to dresses and trousers, leather is dominating the fashion world.

This fall, leather is taking on a new role in unexpected ways.

STYLE TIP: Think leather dresses with intricate cutouts, leather skirts paired with chunky knits, and even leather blazers for a touch of sophistication with a rebel twist.

4. Plaid Perfection:

While new trends are exciting, I appreciate the old reliable ones. Plaid is one such reliable trend.

From traditional tartan to oversized checks, plaid prints are making their mark on coats, skirts, and even accessories like scarves and hats.

STYLE TIP: Plaid is a timeless trend that adds a touch of prep to any outfit.

5. Statement Boots:

Your footwear is about to get a whole lot more interesting.

Statement boots are stealing the show with bold colors, unique textures, and unexpected embellishments.

Whether you're into animal prints, metallics, or patent leather, there's a pair of boots that will make your heart skip a beat.

STYLE TIP: The taller the boot, the better. Try a pair of over-the-knee boots for a fashion forward take on statement boots this season!

6. Wrap Coats:

A cape or a scarf coat that you can nonchalantly toss over your shoulder…what’s a better option for fall outerwear?

Fall is the perfect season to experiment with a blanket cape to literally bundle up in! STYLE TIP: Try layering your cape over your winter coat as the temperatures dip!

7. Maxi Everything:

Maxi skirts, dresses and even maxi outerwear – it's all about the more refined maxi hemline.

This versatile trend is flattering on everyone and offers a balance between summer's shorter styles and winter's longer ones.

STYLE TIP: Pair maxi hemlines with ankle boots or over-the-knee boots to keep you warm on cooler days for an effortlessly chic, yet cozy ensemble.

8. The Clutch Bag:

Don't underestimate the power of accessories this fall. The' it” bag of the season is the clutch, especially a jumbo clutch.

This elegant clutch is seen styled for day or night and is surprisingly timeless.

STYLE TIP: A good clutch will add extra polish to classic tailored outfits! Look for one that has texture, such as shearling, for a more interesting take on the classic clutch.

9. Butter Yellow and/or Saffron Red:

You heard it here first…these are the colors stealing the spotlight this season.

Butter yellow and saffron red are colors that not only evoke a sense of luxury, but also complement the autumn aesthetic perfectly. STYLE TIP: Use one of these rich colors in a monochromatic head-to-toe look as an easy way to make outfits look more expensive than they are.

10. Foundation Pieces:

The classics are back this season. Many designers focused on sustainable fashion by creating looks that women already have hanging in their closets.

Some call it “wearable” fashion, others refer to it as "quiet luxury.” The meaning is the same: high-quality wearable capsule wardrobe basics that can be mixed with anything in your closet to create timeless looks that can be worn for morning coffee meetings or school soccer games.

Pieces such as tailored blazers, turtleneck dresses, pencil skirts, jeans, relaxed trousers, button-down shirts, cozy sweaters and yes, t-shirts!

These are called “wearable’ pieces because they are interchangeable and can be layered with one another and effortlessly thrown together with anything else hanging in your closet.

STYLE TIP: Look no further than your own closet for these wearable foundation pieces. (Now that is truly an example of sustainable fashion!) So there it is, my fall 2023 fashion guide!

It's all about embracing rich colors, playing with textures, and expressing yourself through foundation pieces.

Some of these trends may be already hanging in your closet, but if you feel the need to shop for others, I have some exciting news.

I’m hosting another free 2-hour shopping session at The Mall at Short Hills for a limited time from 10/7/2023-10/22/23.
