Happy 2023! It's a new year and it's time for a fresh start! Who's with me?
Sometimes a fresh start means wanting a new style; however, deciding what to wear at the end of January can be a bit challenging.
It's cold outside so we need to stay warm and cozy, but by now we are getting tired of our old winter wardrobe rotation (cue the sweater-jeans-and-boot combination we keep returning to).
Most of us want to make a fresh start in January, and going back to wearing our 2022 wardrobe feels a bit like déjà vu, rather the fresh start we were hoping for.
So, how do we stay warm and stylish all winter long without breaking the bank?
Keep reading to discover my 5 simple trends to add to your existing winter wardrobe that will have you feeling reinvigorated for the new year!
1. WEAR YOUR GREENS
Greens are not only good for your health, they are good for your wardrobe! Bright shades of green are all the rage this winter season. So invest in something green to add a punch of color to your closet and some vibrance to your winter look. Green hues will have you looking and feeling fresh in the new year!
Fashion Tip: Emerald green (like all jewel tones) is the most universally flattering shade of green because it compliments all skin types.
2. SPORT SOME STATEMENT STRIPES
Stripes were spotted all over the fashion runways so invest in a striped sweater or knit dress and you will feel fresh and inspired. Stripes are a classic print that is particularly on trend this season.
Fashion Tip: Avoid wearing horizontal stripes on areas of your body that you would rather camouflage. Instead, try wearing vertical stripes (such as pinstripes)- they will have you looking and feeling longer, leaner and taller!
3. SLIP ON A PAIR OF KNEE-HIGH BOOTS
Ankle boots are taking a back seat this winter, and are being replaced by knee-high boots. Breathe new life into your leggings, skinnies, dresses and skirts by pairing each with your knee-high boots. Not only will you be warm all season long (since your legs will be covered), but you will also feel completely on trend!
Fashion tip: Opt for a pair of brown knee-high boots, rather than basic black, for an unexpected look this winter.
4. WEAR ONE COLOR FROM HEAD-TO-TOE
If you have ever worked with me, you know how much I love a monochromatic look. That's because wearing the same color from head-to-toe is not only chic, it will also make you appear taller, and will elongate you (there is no break in the color line to cut off your look).
Fashion Tip: Try wearing shades of white with different textures (as above)- it's an unexpected twist for the winter season and an exciting change from the usual drab dark winter colors.
5. LAYER YOUR LOOK IN UNEXPECTED WAYS
One of the easiest ways to make old clothes feel new again is by layering them in unexpected ways. Creative layering will keep you warm in the colder months. The best part about this trend is that you don't have to spend a dime, just layer the clothes you already have in your closet in new and exciting ways!
Fashion Tip: Try layering a turtleneck under your button-down shirt or layering a sweater over a dress (as above) so that it feels like a skirt outfit. Layers make any outfit interesting and will have you feeling inspired all winter long!
To sum up, instead of breaking the bank and investing in an entirely new wardrobe this winter, choose 1 or 2 of these 5 simple trends to try out with your existing closet pieces.
